WCH Tokyo: Day 3 summary

During the morning session of the third competition day, a numerous group of our athletes came into an action. Starting with the field events, in hammer throw we witnessed nine athletes achieving the final qualification standard. Among them, Bence Halász, the leader of this year´s toplists, who threw 78.42m on his first attempt and won the group A. In the group B, Daniel Rába of Hungary achieved his SB of 76.21m and also qualified for his first global final.

In women´s pole vault qualification, both Amálie Švabíková and Tina Šutej made it safely to the final, which is scheduled on Wednesday.

Moving on to the track events, a fantastic result was achieved by Slovak Daniela Ledecká in the 400m hurdles. Trying to overcome an upset from World Championships in Oregon three years ago , Daniela ran a time of 54.86 and took a direct spot to the next round. She went sub-55 for a second time in her career. So did German Elena Kelety, who clocked 54.74, only six hundreths of a second shy of her personal best. Emma Zapletalová fullfilled the expectations and took a big Q while easing off to 54.15.

The same fortunate scenario repeated in men´s hurdles in the afternoon, where both of our guys made it to the semifinal. Slovenian Matic Ian Guček controlled his heat with 48.92 result, Tyri Donovan of Great Britain amazed the fans with a new personal best 48.26.

The most successful long jumper of recent years and world leader Miltiadis Tentoglou made a first step towards defending his crown, leaping to 8.17m on first attempt and winning the qualification group A.

In the first final event of the evening, Polish hammer legend Anita Wlodarczyk managed to throw 74.64m which resulted in overall sixth place. An amazing effort by 40-year-old 4-time world champion.

The pinnacle of the evening came in men´s pole vault. A greek superhero Manolo Karalis showcased an absolute world class. After getting to 5.95m mark without any repair, he had to attempt the mark thrice. After fulfilling this task, it was only him and Mondo Duplantis in the competitions, as no other athlete managed to reach the task. Moving on to 6.00m Manolo went over the bar on his first attempt which was also his 12th six-meter clearance this year. While still battling for gold. he then tried at 6.10, 6.15 and 6.20, unfortunately without success. The great performance, however brought him his first world championships medal! A year after bronze from Paris Olympics, the 25-year-old delivered another superb achievement ,bringing also the first medal of the championships for our agency.

Many congratulations.
