# Amel Tuka
Amel Tuka grew up in Zenica (Bosnia and Herzegovina). He started his athletics career at the age of 18 in 2009. His first athletics event was 400m, then he decided to make a change and he switch his event from 400m to 800m. After 3 years of trainings he made his first appearance at major championships at the European Championships in Helsinki. He was able to run new personal best of 1:48.31 (in heats) and then he ended 16th in semi-finals. Amel won his first international medal at the European Under-23 Championships in 2013, where he took bronze in the 800m in a new national record of 1:46.29. One of the best years of Amel was definitely the year 2015 – he won bronze medal at the World Championships in Beijing and he broke his previous national record from 1:46.12 to 1:42.51! Another big achievement came in 2019 when Amel won silver medal at the World Championships in Doha.
